I recently had two deer come into my yard from a neighbor’s property. The deer had come out of hiding and were standing on the lawn just before I arrived home for the day. I immediately noticed their droopy eyes, their wobbly shoulders, and their droopy ears. I knew right then and there that I had to make this quick meat dish available to people.
For the deer, I took them to the local butcher shop where I purchased the meat and some freezer bags. After I pulled out the bags and froze the meat, I let it thaw and then I started to slice the meat. But I couldn’t quite get the edges to fit over the slots in the freezer bags. So I had to move the meat into the fridge and then the freezer.
A few people had a hard time getting their deer meat to thaw, but I can promise that you can actually freeze a deer’s meat for the long haul using the freezer bags. It takes a little time, but it’s totally worth it.
The freezer bags are basically an insulated, shrink-wrap-type bag, and thawing them can take anywhere from 10 to 12 hours. I bought two freezer bags, but I think one would actually work for just about any meat you could think of. But you have to remember that a freezer bag will hold about 8 grams of meat, so a deer is like 6-8 pounds.
That’s right. If you are going to thaw a deers meat in the freezer, you need to be able to do it in the freezer. In other words, you have to know how to thaw a deer. I’ve been doing it for years, and you can see how much research goes into it these days. I’ve even got a couple of books out on the subject.
Well as well as books, you could just look up the freezing instructions online if you needed any more information. Just as importantly, you can also get freezer bags to store your meat in these days. Ive found that one of the best ways to thaw meat in the freezer is to wrap it in a couple of layers of freezer bag, then thaw it in the fridge overnight, then wrap it in another layer of freezer bag.
Ive been making a habit of keeping my deer meat in the freezer for at least 1 month. If youve got a freezer, Ive found that it makes no difference to how long it takes to thaw. I have plenty of deer meat left over from the last hunt and Ive already thawed it and stored it in my freezer. Ive even turned the freezer on and was surprised to find that it’s already at room temperature.
I’ve seen a lot of deer meat cooking in the fridge. While Ive done my first meal recently, Ive been making it twice and once-a-day. Ive been making it twice since I was 18 and Ive been making it one day a week since I started. It’s been a long time since I made it a full day. Now I’ve got another day that I’ll make it a full day in the fridge.
I’ve been thinking about a topic where I was in the kitchen one morning. I was in the middle of cooking a dinner when I noticed my food was starting to get a bit cold. I took a deep breath, then started taking a bite of the food. It was a deer. Ive been eating deer meat for a few weeks now and I really liked it. This is one of the reasons Ive come to this website.
I’m glad I have a site like that.
